Day 1 Travel day
Arrive Santiago de Cuba. Twin room, half board x 6 nights.
Day 2 Santiago de Cuba
Free day to explore Santiago and relax and listen to live traditional Cuban music in the Casa de la Trova
Day 3 - 5 Salsa classes
Morning salsa classes with your own Cuban professional dance partners. 3 days x 2 hours.
Day 6 Free day
Free day to explore Santiago and surrounding areas e.g. visit to the Moncada Barracks where Fidel and his followers first tried to overthrow the Batista regime and late afternoon visit to El Morro castle to watch the sunset. Evening free
Day 7 Depart for Trek
Private transfer to Santo Domingo (3 hours) with lunch stop in the historical city of Bayamo. Overnight in Villa Santo Domingo hotel, dinner and prepare for trek.
All meals provided and specialist guides to accompany the trek.
Day 8 Pico Turquino trek
Travel by truck to Alto de Naranjo, visit La Comandancia, Fidel’s strategic base in the Sierra Maestra mountains, picnic lunch and afternoon visit to La Platica eco-community. Overnight in La Platica refuge.
Day 9 Pico Turquino trek
Early morning departure for 4-5 hours walking to the Aguada de Joaquin refuge, the next overnight stop.
Day 10 Pico Turquino and return to Santiago
Climb Pico Turquino and descend to Las Cuevas on the coast (6-7 hours walking). Transfer to Santiago de Cuba and homestay accommodation x 1 night, twin room, half board
Day 11 Fly Santiago to Havana
Transfer to Santiago airport for morning flight to Havana. Arrivals transfer to 3* hotel in Havana or on Playas del Este, twin room with breakfast x 3 nights.
Days 12/13 Havana
Free time to enjoy the beach and hotel facilities (Playas del Este) or explore Old Havana, visit the museum of the Revolution, the Partagas cigar factory or go shopping in the local crafts market.
Day 14 Last day/ return travel
Private transfer to Havana airport late afternoon for return overnight flight
Cost: approx. £1,250 per person excluding international flights but including Santiago - Havana domestic flight (2011 low season prices)
