Proposed Itinerary: Pico Turquino 4 DAY TREK 

Day 1

Depart Santiago for Santo Domingo via the town of Bayamo (3 hours) for lunch. Transport by private taxi/minibus with guide. Arrive late afternoon and check into hotel. Dinner in hotel. 

Day 2

After breakfast, depart by jeep/truck for Alto de Naranjo, with guided visit to La Comandancia, Fidel's revolutionary base in the Sierra Maestra Mountains. Picnic lunch and afternoon visit to La Platica ecological community.   Dinner and overnight in mountain refuge in La Platica.

Day 3

Early morning departure after breakfast, 4-5 hours walk accompanied by specialist park guide to the Aguada de Joaquin refuge via luscious virgin forest.  Dinner and overnight stop. Picnic lunch en route

Day 4

Climb Pico Turquino with picnic lunch en route, and descend to Las Cuevas on the coast (6-8 hours). End of trek and transfer to Santiago de Cuba (3 hours)


Please note that you have to carry your own kit on the trek.  Porters may be available for around CUC$15 per day (£10 sterling) – but we cannot guarantee this. It’s best to pack only what you can easily carry and we recommend that you take no  more than a 20l rucksack.  A full kit list will be sent with your booking confirmation.
