Learn Italian in Lucca, Italy

Lucca, located in northern central Italy, is a small historic city often described as the jewel of Tuscany. Over the years, it has developed into a modern city but has managed to preserve its history and uphold the traditions of a small country town. The centre of Lucca is surrounded by 16th century walls beyond which there is no traffic, making it a safe pedestrianised zone. Lucca boasts some of Italy's finest architecture and plenty of traditional Italian restaurants, boutiques and markets are to be found offering the finest local produce. Lucca is easy to reach, with Pisa and the Mediterranean just over 20km away, and Florence 82km away.

Our school is located in a traditional building in the centre of Lucca. All classrooms have air-conditioning and internet facilities are available for student use. There is also an internet café nearby. The school also provides restaurant recommendations and advice on purchasing Tuscan wines, as well as offering wine tasting tours, cookery courses and visits to local farms.

Courses are available all year round for a variety of ages and levels. Please click on one of the options below for more details:

Client feedback - have a look at some of the experiences of past clients.

Cultural activities and excursions are organised each week and include visits to places of interest and weekend excursions such as: Lucchese Villa; trip to Florence or Pisa; visit to a local farm with wine tasting; trip to Garfagnana, historical walking tour of Lucca. Please note that there will be a small fee for entrances.

Accommodation is available in homestays and shared apartments, all year round.

Transfers: one way transfers available to/from Pisa Airport £95 or Florence Airport, from £120.

School Closure: 6 Jan, 9/25 Apr, 1 May, 2 Jun, 15 Aug, 1 Nov and 8/25/26 Dec 2012.  The school will be closed on these public holidays and no classes will be held.  Missed group classes will not be rescheduled, however an activity will be organised instead. Individual lessons will be rescheduled.  The school will also close on 21 Dec 2012 for the festive period and re-open on 14 Jan 2013.

Client feedback

I enjoyed my trip immensely - it ticked all my boxes.  I had been wanting to have this kind of holiday for the last 4 years.  The teacher was excellent, hard work was required and no talking in anything but Italian, even outside the school.  Organisation was always good with each lesson being well prepared prior to the class.  Excursions and activities were excellent and diverse.  The accommodation was exactly as the photographs you sent me.  It was comfortable, clean and secure and near to lots of food shops which was very handy when on a self-catering holiday. SB - General Italian Course (Apr/May 2012)

Lucca is so interesting and I liked walking around the streets and going into some of the churches.  The Caffe del Mercato, where we ended our first afternoon activity with wine and snacks is a really good place to sit and chat or just people watch.  Le Mura is a great place for strolling or running if one feels more energetic.  Location of the school was excellent, easy to find from where I was staying, very close to my lodgings, very good cafe nearby for the coffee break.  Good range of afternoon activities, highlight being trip to Villa Maionchi to sample wine and have meranda.  Accommodation was very good, my padrone di casa being very friendly.  Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, especially learning the language with like-minded students from other parts of the world. IL - General Italian Course (April 2012)

Lucca is a beautiful city with very interesting architecture and it is not too large.  The school facilities were excellent... the classes were well organised and my teacher was brilliant.  [Excursions and activities] I went on them all and they were all very informative and enjoyable.  My hosts were very friendly, kind and considerate.  The evening meals were well prepared and very tasty. RE - General Italian Course (Feb 2012)
