Learn Portuguese in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil
Salvador da Bahia is a vibrant city in north-east Brazil, full of music and dance. Founded in 1549, it was the first colonial capital of Brazil and today is known as ‘the capital of happiness' due to its easygoing population. It is also the centre of Afro-Brazilian culture, with both Portuguese and African influences. The historic centre boasts impressive colonial architecture and offers up an exotic cocktail of typical music, dress, dance and food. The annual Carnival is famous for its all night street parties and parades. And the state of Bahia boasts beaches, rain forest, rivers, mountains and of course, sun!
Our school is located in the Barra district of the city, just 5 minutes' walk from the beach. The school offers free internet and Wi-Fi access to its students. Barra is a fashionable, up-market residential area with good shops and affordable restaurants and bars, just 15 minutes from the historic city centre.

Cultural activities and guided excursions are offered throughout the year, through a weekly programme, including: museum visits, sightseeing tours, dance classes including Samba and other Bahian/Brazilian dances, Capoeira classes, football matches, festivals, concerts, nights out and language exchange opportunities with local Brazilians. There is a small charge for transport and entrances, payable directly at the school.
Accommodation is available in local homestays and a hostel, all year round (during Carnival, only homestay accommodation available).
Transfers: available from/to International Airport Deputado Luis Eduardo Magalhaes which is 30km from the town, £50 one way
School Closure: 1 Jan, 17 to 26 Feb (Carnival), 6 Apr, 1 May, 7 Sep, 12 Oct, 2 Nov and 25 Dec 2012. The school will be closed on these public holidays and no classes will be held. Only individual classes will be rescheduled.

Portuguese + Cookery in Salvador da Bahia
This course combines language tuition with cookery classes: an opportunity to learn how to prepare some delicious Brazilian dishes and drinks. The cookery session consists of theory and practice, as well as the banquet at the end to enjoy the delicious and exotic new flavours. Course fees include cooking ingredients and teaching materials, as well as a booklet with recipes, basic vocabulary and some facts about the historical and cultural background of Bahian and Brazilian cuisine.

Portuguese + Surfing in Salvador da Bahia
This course combines language tuition with weekend surfing classes at Busca Vida beach, 40km from Salvador. Students can opt for surfing on Saturday only (1 hour bus journey there and back), or all weekend. Students are picked up from their accommodation at 09.00 to travel to the beach. After the surf lesson, the afternoon is free to practise newly acquired surfing skills or to just relax on the beach. Return to Salvador at 16.00 (either Saturday evening, or Sunday if opting for full weekend).

Hostel
This type of accommodation is ideal for those who wish to have more independence. It is a modern building by the teach and only a 5 minute walk to the school. Each room includes a fan or air conditioning, private bathroom, fridge and bed linen, as a well as a safe locker at reception. The guest house also offers access to a shared kitchen with free tea and coffee, free access to laundry facilities, common room with TV, DVD and music facilities, free Wi-Fi and internet and a gym. Minimum stay 2 weeks (13 nights).
