Learn Spanish and Dance/Percussion in Havana, Cuba

Cuba's capital is undoubtedly one of the most impressive cities in the Caribbean, with its restored colonial architecture, the famous seafront promenade El Malecon, El Prado avenue running from the sea to Parque Central, lively Plaza Vieja and numerous small streets around the cathedral. Colourful artisan markets selling handcrafts and clothes and second-hand bookstalls are dotted around Old Havana, and there are plenty of street cafes and bars, not to mention a wide range of live music and dance venues. Beautiful beaches to the east of the city, Playas del Este, are only 30 minutes from Old Havana by taxi or the daily bus service.

Our school is located in Miramar, a smart residential area of the city just 15-20 minutes by taxi from historic Old Havana, housed in a large villa with a garden. The school has 6 classrooms, with air-conditioning and audio-visual equipment, and there are computers with internet access. There is a common area in the garden and a small kitchen where soft drinks, coffee and snacks are available which students may use between classes.

Courses are available all year round for a variety of ages and levels. Course fees include placement test and the use of text books. Students should take their own paper, pens and a dictionary. Please click on one of the options below for more details:

Cultural activities and excursions are offered each week to encourage students to discover the city and meet other students, such as a city tour of Havana, beach trip, evening out to local dance venues, visits to museums and other places of local interest. These activities are optional and should be paid for at the school.

Accommodation is available in homestays or hotel accommodation, all year round. 

Flights and transfers: we hold an ATOL licence and can arrange both international flights to Cuba and domestic flights for your trip. Upon arrival at Havana International Airport, you can take an official state-run taxi (Cuba Taxi) to your accommodation. 

Visa: all visitors to Cuba require a visa to enter the country, known as a tourist card.  We can provide you with this and it costs £20 (£15 + £5 admin fee) plus postage. This visa is valid for 30 days and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry to Cuba.

School Closure: 1 Jan, 1 May, 26 Jul, 10 Oct and 25/31 Dec 2012.  The school will be closed on these public holidays and no classes will be held. Only individual lessons will be rescheduled to another day.

General and Intensive Spanish Courses in Havana

These courses are designed for those who wish to learn communicative Spanish skills, ideal for use in everyday life.  If there is only one student enrolled for a particular level at any one time, they will receive a reduced number of individual lessons instead of group tuition.

Individual Spanish Courses in Havana

One-to-one tuition is ideal for those who would like intensive learning or those who wish to focus on specific topics as lesson content can be tailored to each individual's needs.

Cuban Dance/Percussion Courses in Havana

Cuban dance (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggaeton, Rumba, Tango, Son) and percussion courses can be taken in conjunction with a Spanish course or independently.  Dance classes are held in the purpose built air-conditioned dance studio next to the school.  Each student has their own Cuban dance partner, all professional dance teachers from La Habana Dance Academy.  Percussion classes are held in the school and focus on drumming techniques and basic Cuban rhythms.  Teachers are graduates from the Havana School of Arts.

Accommodation in Havana

Both accommodation options run from Sunday to Saturday (1 week = 6 nights).

Homestay

This type of accommodation is ideal for those who would like to practise their Spanish and have an insight into Cuban life. This is arranged on a room only basis and meals can be arranged directly with the host. This type of accommodation is limited so we recommend booking as early as possible. A free shuttle bus departs for the school each morning from a nearby hotel.

Hotel

This 4 star hotel is located just 5 minutes by taxi (or a 20 minute walk) from the school and there is a free shuttle bus in the mornings to take students to/from Spanish classes.  All rooms are air conditioned and have satellite TV, safe deposit box and a minibar.  The hotel is surrounded by gardens and offers a private beach and swimming pools.  The hotel also offers the following: A La Carte restaurant, buffet, bar, cafeteria, snack bar, room service, jacuzzi, beauty parlour, medical care, excursions, children's pool, games room, internet access, international phone, laundry service and a shop.  Check-in is from 16.00 hours and breakfast costs CUC$7 per person and should be paid for at the hotel.
