Learn Spanish in Playa del Carmen, Mexico  

Mexico is in Central America, bordered by the United States, the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala, Belize and the Caribbean Sea.  It has plenty to offer, from beautiful beaches to historical cities, national parks, mountains and impressive archaeological sites.  Mexico has over 112 million inhabitants, making it the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world. 

Playa del Carmen is a seaside town located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, just 60km from Cancun International Airport.  The turquoise sea and long white sandy beaches are complimented by the relaxed atmosphere and slow pace of life, more like a Mexican village than a Caribbean resort. 

Our school is located just two blocks from the beach with a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops close by.  There are 10 spacious classrooms, all with air-conditioning and views of the exotic garden.  There is also a study room, internet facilities and a restaurant, as well as a cafe in the garden where students can socialise after lessons. 

Course fees include a placement test, course materials and certificate, student card and some social/cultural activities.  Please note that students are required to purchase the course book at the school for approximately US$35.

Courses are available all year round for a variety of ages and levels.  Please click on one of the options below for more details:

Cultural activities and excursions are offered throughout the year and students are provided with a 2 week programme upon arrival.  Social activities held in the school include welcome cocktails, cultural exchanges, Latin dance classes, lectures on Mexican + Mayan culture and film screenings and these are all free of charge.  Excursions are organised to local places of interest, such as the ancient Mayan cities of Tulum and Chichen Itza, as well as the island of Cozumel which is famous for its coral reefs and marine life.

Accommodation is available all year round, in local homestays, the school residence or in shared or private apartments. 

Transfers: private arrival and departure transfers can be arranged from/to Cancun International Airport.  1 person £65 one way (between 08.00 - 22.00) or £95 one way (between 22.00 - 08.00).  2+ persons travelling together £40 per person one way.

School Closure: 1 Jan, 3 Feb, 23 Mar, 5/6 Apr, 4 May, 14 Sep, 23 Nov, and 25 Dec 2012.  The school will be closed on these public holidays and no classes will be held.  Only individual lessons will be rescheduled.

General Spanish Course in Playa del Carmen

These courses are designed for those who wish to learn communicative Spanish skills, ideal for use in everyday life. Long term courses are also available for 5+ weeks - please contact us for more details.

Individual Spanish Course in Playa del Carmen

Individual tuition is ideal for those who would prefer intensive learning or who wish to focus on specific topics as lesson content can be tailored to an individual's needs.

Spanish + Mexican Culture in Playa del Carmen

This course combines Spanish group tuition in the morning with afternoon study sessions which provide an insight into the rich Mexican culture.  Activities in afternoon classes are designed to develop communicative skills, covering topics such as the history of Mexico, regional and ethnic diversity, folklore and the arts.

Consists of:

20 group Spanish lessons + 3 Discover Mexico sessions per week

Spanish + Latin Dance in Playa del Carmen

This is a fantastic course combining Spanish language tuition and Latin dance classes with expert dance instructors.  Dance lessons take place on 3 afternoons per week and include popular Latin dances such as Salsa, Rumba, Samba and Chachacha.

Spanish + Mexican Cookery in Playa del Carmen

This course combines Spanish tuition and cookery classes in the school's purpose built kitchen, offering the opportunity to learn how to prepare some of Mexico's most enticing dishes.  The first class includes a visit to a local food market so that students can learn the names of all basic ingredients.  All the ingredients are included in the course fee and students can also sample everything that they have prepared.

Spanish + Diving in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is a great place to learn to dive, with different sites to suit all levels of experience and interest.  This course offers the opportunity to combine Spanish tuition with a diving course, working towards a PADI certificate.  You will be taught by fully qualified PADI instructors and are provided with all diving equipment, facilities and loan of a diving manual.

Course duration: 

1-3 weeks 

Consists of:

20 group Spanish lessons + 3-day diving course

Class timetable: 

Spanish 09.30 - 13.30 including 20 minute break (Mon-Fri)

 

+ diving sessions organised outside of Spanish class time

Beginners Diving Course: 3 day course leading to the PADI Open Water certificate, for dives of up to 18 metres.  Includes: theory + pool sessions, 4 ocean boat dives, exams + certification.  Students are required to read three chapters of the PADI Open Water Manual prior to the first day of the course.

Cost: 1 week £425 / 2 weeks £580 / 3 weeks £740

Advanced Diving Course: 2-3 day course leading to the PADI certificate for dives of up to 30 metres.  Students on this course must already have the PADI Open Water certificate, or equivalent.  Includes: theory sessions, 5 ocean dives + certification.  Ocean dives includes: 1 navigation, 1 deep + 3 optional (photography, video, wreck, night, etc.)
