Spanish in Playa del Carmen, Mexico  

Mexico has everything to offer the visitor from beautiful beaches to historical cities, national parks, mountains and impressive archaelogical sites. Mexico has a population of approximately 109 million and is the perfect country to learn Spanish and explore.

Playa del Carmen is a seaside town located on the Caribbean side of Mexico and just 60km from Cancun International Airport. The town has all the advantages of a Mexican Caribbean resort with its turquoise sea and long white sandy beaches yet has managed to retain a relaxed village atmosphere and offers a wide range of activities including some of the best diving in the Caribbean.

Our school is located just two blocks from the beach with a wide range of bars, restaurants and places to stay close by. There are 10 spacious classrooms in total, all with air-conditioning and views of the garden, which is full of exotic trees and plants. The school building also has a study room, internet facilities and a restaurant as well as a cafe in the garden where students can relax and socialise after class.

Minimum age is 18 years

A variety of courses are available, all year round:

• Spanish + Latin Dancing
• Spanish + Yoga

Cultural activities and excursions are offered throughout the year and include cooking and dance lessons, Mexican arts and craft workshops and cultural exchanges. Excursions are also organised to areas of local interest which surround Playa del Carmen such as Tulum, Chichen Itza and the Island of Cozumel, one of the top diving destinations in the Caribbean.  It is possible to reach as far as Havana, Cuba which is just a 1.5 hour flight away.  Most activities within Playa del Carmen are free of charge but students may have to pay entrance fees and transport costs where applicable.

Accommodation is available in local homestays, in the school's student residence or in shared or private apartments.

Transfers: private arrival and departure transfers can be arranged and cost £65 for 1 person one way for arrivals at Cancun international airport between 8.00am and 10.00pm. Anyone requesting a transfer outwith these hours should note that a one way private transfer will cost £95 for 1 person each way.

Public holidays: The school will be closed on 1 Jan, 5 Feb, 15 Mar, 1/2 Apr, 17 Sep, 22 Nov, 25 Dec 2010. No classes will be held on these days and missed group lessons will not be rescheduled.  

General Spanish Courses

A variety of Spanish courses are offered at our school in Playa del Carmen for all levels. Each lesson is 55 minutes with a maximum of 8 students per group.

* course includes social and cultural activities, use of school facilities including internet access, course materials and completion certificate. Please note that the course book is not included and can be bought for approx. $US30 at the school.

Spanish + Diving

Playa del Carmen is an ideal place to dive with different sites to suit all levels of experience and interest. Spanish classes take place in the mornings and diving in the afternoons. All instructors are fully qualified PADI instructors and dive equipment is provided and included in the price. Please note that books relating to the Spanish course are not included in the price. Courses are 1 - 3 weeks in duration and include 20 group Spanish lessons per week.

Diving for Beginners is a 4 day course leading to the PADI Open Water certificate. The course includes: 5 theory modules, 5 pool lessons and 4 open water dives. All students participating in this course must be of good health.  

The Advanced Course is a 2-3 day course leading to the PADI Advanced Open Water certificate. The course includes: 5 theory modules and 5 adventure dives. All students participating in this course must be of good health and already have the PADI Open Water course certificate.

Spanish + Mexican Cookery

This course combines Spanish tuition and cookery classes in the school's beautiful garden kitchen. The first class includes a visit to a local food market so that students can learn the names of all basic ingredients. All the ingredients are included in the course fee and students can also sample everything that they have prepared. Classes take place on 3 afternoons per week.

A fantastic course combining Spanish and latin dance tuition with expert dance instructors. Dance lessons take place during 3 afternoons per week and include popular latin dances such as Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa and Samba.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available in local homestays, carefully selected and inspected by the school or in the school's residence. Accommodation begins on the Sunday before the course starts, and ends on the Saturday after the course finishes.

Homestay accommodation is perfect for students who want to fully immerse themselves in everyday Mexican life.  

Residence accommodation is ideal for those who would like a bit more independence. The new residence is just a 5 minute walk from the school and the building has a reception, a kitchen and dining area. Each room is equipped with twin beds, private bathroom, desk, TV, a small fridge, ceiling fans and air-conditioning. 

Shared apartment accommodation is also available on request. Please contact us for more details.
