Spanish in San Jose, Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a small democratic country in Central America with a population of approximately 4.5 million. The country is bordered to the north by Nicaragua, to the north-east by the Caribbean Sea, to the south-east by Panama and to the west and south-west by the Pacific Ocean. A series of volcanic mountain chains runs from the Nicaraguan to the Panamanian border and a quarter of the country is National Park land including cloud forests, virgin rain forests and an incredible diversity of plant and animal life.
San Jose is the capital and also the largest city of Costa Rica. It is located in the centre of the country, and has just over 1 million inhabitants. This cosmopolitan city has much to offer with its vibrant nightlife, top class restaurants, an abundance of museums, national parks and colourful markets.
Our school in San José has been a constant favourite with our students since we introduced it in 2000, mainly due to its very friendly, family atmosphere. Located in a new building in the San Pedro area of the city, our school has several well equipped classrooms, a computer room with free access to the internet for all students, a large kitchen for practical cookery classes, a sunny terrace and plenty of leafy, green spaces where students can sit and sip one of the free fruit juices on offer or a cup of Costa Rican coffee.

Courses are available all year round:
Cultural activities and excursions are offered by the school throughout the year to help students get to know the local culture and discover the area. Activites include city tours, visit to museums, music workshops and Latin dance and cooking classes are offered free to students each week. Additionally, conversation hours are organised at the school where students have the opportunity to practise their Spanish with one of the teachers, discuss current affairs and discover more about the local culture.
Accommodation is available in homestays, and is an excellent way to experience the local culture and practise your Spanish with local people. Accommodation is from Sunday to Saturday and includes half board (breakfast and dinner).
Transfers: included free on arrival and departure.
Public holidays: The school will close on 1 Jan, 1/2 Apr and from 27 Dec 2010 to 1 Jan 2011. No classes will be held on these days.
General Spanish Courses
The following courses include single room accommodation with a carefully selected Costa Rican family, laundry service, tuition as booked, class materials and airport transfer on arrival and departure. Each lesson is 60 minutes.
Programme 1:
Classes from Monday to Thursday inclusive. Programme 1 is designed to allow more free time to explore the local area over long weekends.

Private one-to-one tuition is also available as a supplement to the general Spanish courses and are ideal for those who have a specific aim or focus. Each lesson lasts 1 hour and costs £17.
