Learn Spanish in San José, Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a small democratic country in Central America with a population of approximately 4.5 million.  The country is bordered to the north by Nicaragua, to the north-east by the Caribbean Sea, to the south-east by Panama and to the west and south-west by the Pacific Ocean.  Costa Rica, meaning "rich coast" is known as one of the ‘greenest' countries in the world: a series of volcanic mountain ranges runs from the Nicaraguan to the Panamanian border and a quarter of the country is National Park land including cloud forests, virgin rain forests and an incredible diversity of plant and animal life. 

San José is the capital and also the largest city of Costa Rica.  It is located in the centre of the country, has just over 1 million inhabitants and enjoys an average temperature of 25ºC throughout the year.  This cosmopolitan city has much to offer with its vibrant nightlife, concerts, music festivals, top class restaurants, an abundance of museums, national parks and colourful markets.  On top of all that, its central location makes it a great base to see the rest of the country from.

Our school in San José is located in a modern building in the San Pedro neighbourhood, just 20 minutes on foot from the city centre.  It has 38 well equipped classrooms, 2 computer rooms with free Wi-Fi and internet access for all students, a large kitchen for practical cookery classes, 2 dance studios, a sunny terrace and plenty of green spaces where students can socialise after classes.

Courses are available all year round for a variety of ages and levels.  Course fees include tuition, all course materials, cultural and social programme, single room accommodation, private bathroom, breakfast and dinner, laundry service and airport return transfer.  Please click on the link below for more details:

Cultural activities and excursions are offered throughout the year, including city tours, museum visits, music workshops, Latin dance classes and cookery classes. These activities are optional and free of charge.  Additionally, conversation sessions are organised by the school, an opportunity to practise Spanish with one of the teachers, discuss current affairs and discover more about the local culture. 

Accommodation is available in local homestays all year round and is included in the course price. This type of accommodation offers an excellent opportunity to experience everyday Costa Rican culture and practise Spanish with the local people.

Transfers: return transfer to/from Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) are included in course fees.

School Closure: 1 Jan, 5/6 April and the school will also be closed from 22 Dec 2012 for the festive period and re-open on 2 Jan 2013.  No classes will be held on these dates but airport transfers and homestay accommodation will be available.

General Spanish Course in San José

These courses run from Monday to Thursday, 4 days per week.  They are designed to allow more free time to explore the local area over long weekends.

These courses run from Monday to Friday, 5 days per week.

Supplementary Individual Tuition

One-to-one tuition is also available as a supplement to the General and Intensive Spanish courses and is ideal for those who have a specific aim or focus for their language studies.  Each lesson lasts 60 minutes and costs £18.

Additional Nights' Accommodation

Accommodation runs from Sunday before your course starts to Saturday after it finishes.  If students wish to stay extra nights in their homestay accommodation, before or after their programme, the cost is £17 per night or £115 per week.
