Learn Spanish and Dance/Percussion in Santiago de Cuba
Santiago is the second city of Cuba and the undisputed home of traditional Cuban music and dance. Due to its unique cultural mix including African, Haitian, French and Spanish influences and its geographical location on the southeast coast of the island, Santiago has a very relaxed, tropical atmosphere. The city boasts a wide range of live music clubs and dance venues which offer different entertainment every night of the week, from the world famous Casa de la Trova in the city centre to small local clubs in outlying neighbourhoods. You can explore most of the city by foot and it is relatively easy to venture further afield to the Sierra Maestra mountains, nearby beaches and small islands.
Classes take place in the heart of the historic city centre, near the main square. Course materials are limited due to the lack of general resources in Cuba, so it is important that students take their own dictionary and writing materials.
Courses are available all year round for a variety of ages and levels. Courses must be booked with accommodation. Please click on one of the options below for more details:
Accommodation is available in homestays and hotels, all year round.
Flights and transfers: we hold an ATOL licence and can arrange international and internal flights for your trip to Cuba. There are direct flights to Santiago de Cuba from Havana every day and some international flights arrive at Holguin (just 2 hours away). Upon arrival in Santiago airport, we can arrange an airport transfer to your accommodation: £18 one way (1 passenger) or £30 one way (2-3 passengers). From the Viazul bus station, a one way transfer to your accommodation is £15 for 1-2 passengers.
Visa: all visitors to Cuba require a visa to enter the country, known as a tourist card. We can provide you with this and it costs £20 (£15 + £5 admin fee) plus postage. This visa is valid for 30 days and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry to Cuba.
Public holidays: 1 Jan, 1 May, 26 July and 25/31 Dec 2012. No classes will be held on these days.
