Learn Spanish in Sosua, Dominican Republic

Stretching across two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola is the vibrant nation of the Dominican Republic, a tropical paradise in the Caribbean.  The rich cultural heritage, beautiful colonial architecture, spectacular scenery and friendly locals make this a wonderful place to learn Spanish.  

Sosua is a small coastal town on the north coast, population of only 12,000 inhabitants, with a beautiful, large, sandy beach which can be enjoyed all year round with average temperatures of 32ºC in the summer and 27ºC in the winter.  This area offers a wide variety of leisure activities such as diving, snorkelling, horse riding, river rafting and mountain biking, plus nearby Cabarete is well known for its world class windsurfing and kite-surfing.

Our school is located in the serene area of El Batey.  Surrounded by lush gardens and terraces and with a communal kitchen for student use as well as free internet and Wi-Fi access, it provides an open and friendly environment for studying Spanish and socialising with fellow students.  It is very close to the town centre and only five minutes from the beach.

Courses are available all year round for a variety of ages and levels.  Course fees include a placement test, course materials and certificate, refreshments during morning break and town orientation tour.  Please click on one of the options below for more details:

Cultural activities and excursions are offered throughout the year.  2-3 social activities are organised per week, such as: BBQs, Bachata and Merengue dance classes, Dominican cookery sessions, beach volleyball or mini-golf, museum visits, live concerts, dinners out, pool parties, and nights out.  Half-day, full-day and weekend excursions are offered to help provide insight into the local culture (cost depending on number of participants), such as: city tours, national parks, beach and boat trips, horse riding, river rafting, mountain biking, hiking and jeep safaris.

Accommodation is available in studios, apartments or a hotel, all year round.

School Closure: 1/21 Jan, 27 Feb, 6 Apr, 1 May, 24 Sep and 25 Dec 2012.  The school will be closed on these public holidays and no classes will be held.  Only private lessons will be rescheduled.

Individual Spanish Course in Sosua

Spanish + Wind or Kite Surfing in Sosua

This course combines group Spanish tuition with windsurfing or kite surfing lessons.  Spanish classes take place at our school in Sosua and surfing lessons take place at Cabarete, just 15 minutes from Sosua, known as one of the best surfing beaches in the world.  Kite or wind surfing can also be combined with individual Spanish tuition; please contact us for prices.  All course fees include equipment for surfing.

Surfing: afternoon (weather dependent)

Windsurfing

There are 3 programmes to choose from, depending on your level:

3 x 3 hours Beginner Group Course (all theoretical and practical knowledge required to start windsurfing)

3 x 3 hours Advanced Group Course (to refresh surfing skills, to learn new skills and to learn about this surf area)

Cost: £365 per week (including Spanish tuition)

 

14 days Surf Pool for advanced surfers (for advanced only: no course, just the opportunity to practise on excellent material)

Kite Surfing

There are 3 programmes to choose from, depending on your level:

5 x 3 hours Beginner Group Course (all theoretical and practical knowledge required for fun, secure kite surfing)

Spanish + Scuba Diving in Sosua

This course combines group Spanish tuition with scuba diving instruction with professional dive guides.  Spanish classes take place at our school in Sosua and scuba diving takes place from the beach, just 5 minutes' walk from the language school.  The bay at Sosua is shaped by two reefs, providing ideal diving conditions for all levels, certified and uncertified.  There are 19 different dive sites, all between 5-20 minutes by boat from the beach, with excellent visibility and temperature conditions. You may encounter groupers, king crabs, sepias, many tropical fish, morays, sting-rays, barracudas and sometimes even dolphins or a humpback whale.  Scuba diving can also be combined with individual Spanish tuition; please contact us for prices. All course fees include equipment for diving.

Scuba Diving 

There are 3 programmes to choose from, depending on your level:

Uncertified divers: PADI Open Water Diver Certificate

Course length: 1 week (half-days)

Consists of: introduction, pool training, 5 theory units, 4 open water dives, final exam and PADI certification 

Cost: £545 (including Spanish tuition)

 

Certified divers: 3 guided dives (special dives available upon request at an extra cost: night, deep, wreck, navigation, nitrox or cave)

Cost: £300 per week (including Spanish tuition)

 

Certified divers: 5 guided dives (special dives available upon request at an extra cost: night, deep, wreck, navigation, nitrox or cave)

All our accommodation options run from Sunday to Saturday (1 week = 6 nights).  Extra nights are also possible, subject to availability.

Most studios are located on the school premises with direct access to the garden and terraces.  Only 5 minutes' walk to town centre and beach.  There is also one studio located in the school building, on the first floor, with bathroom, fridge, TV, fan and free Wi-Fi available.  Bed linen and towels are provided.
